O have used the cut material to knit cushion covers on the diagonal starting with 3 stitches and increasing once on every row until as big as you want the cushion the decreasing. I join the strips using the slit method and looping the fabric through. The strips were about an inch wide and I used 12 mm needles. if you want it tighter use 10 mm ones. Hope this helps to use those marked or stretched tshirts.

Chain until you get the desired width you want, then turn and single crochet (SC) in the 2nd chain from the hook, and continue across… ch 1, turn and sc across again. Continue until you get the length you want. That simple.
